Teens with hemophilia and inhibitors face all the usual teen challenges—challenges that can be made more complicated by having hemophilia. So in addition to the usual teen questions, you probably have a special set of questions about your unique growing-up experience.
For teens with hemophilia with inhibitors, one of the most important questions is:
Who is on my team?
The good news is that you have a big team of people ready and willing to work with you. From the medical experts at your Hemophilia Treatment Center (HTC) to the friends you meet through camp or conferences, there are people of all ages who want to help.

Your Hemophilia Treatment Center
You probably already know the doctors, nurses, and social workers at your HTC. As you move into and through your teen years, you'll find new ways they can help you, such as:
- Special infusion instruction for kids who are ready to self-infuse
- Help with finding the treatments that work best for your teen lifestyle
- Advice on how to safely participate in school activities such as sports
- Connections to local groups of teens with similar medical conditions
To learn more about all the ways your HTC can be there for you, visit the HTC section of this website.
-
Your Hemophilia Organizations
Both the National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF) and the Hemophilia Federation of America (HFA) now have programs for teens and young adults. From camping to leadership retreats, you'll find opportunities to spend time and share ideas with other teens with hemophilia.
To learn more about local and national programs for teens, begin with the Associations page of this website.
-
Your School
Teachers and other school staff should be educated about hemophilia with inhibitors and know what to do in case of a bleed. Once they've learned how to help you, most school staff will be glad to work with you to make sure you have every opportunity to be an active part of your school.
