Hemophilia Treatment Centers (HTCs) are centers where members of the medical staff are specialists in treating hemophilia and other bleeding disorders such as Factor VII deficiency. The staff includes:
- Nurses
- Hematologists
- Social workers
- Physical therapists
- Other health care professionals, such as dentists
Besides giving medical treatment, an HTC can also provide other important services, such as educational materials, a wide variety of counseling services, help with insurance issues, and instructions for home treatment.
For someone with hemophilia with inhibitors or with Factor VII deficiency, the HTC is the best place to go to receive comprehensive care. In fact, studies show that those who receive care at HTCs enjoy better, more integrated care than those who receive care at non-HTC facilities.
